The DOMUS – Licht zum Wohnen GmbH was founded in 1966 by Henning Borm in an old sawmill in Bad Münder / Lower Saxony. As the area around Bad Münder is acclaimed for its wood-processing industry, it is not surprising that the company focused on the production of high quality lamps made of wood from very early on.

Entirely new ways to employ the material were opened up in 1981 through the development of special elements of formed laminated wood that should characterize the collection in the following years.

In 2002, graduate engineer Olaf Seynsche took over the helm of the family business.

Since 2009, the cooperation with various young designers such as e27 and Stephanie Knust ensures a constant influx of new creative impulses. DOMUS is also an economic success story. The company has earned an excellent international reputation as a specialist for high quality lamps made from natural materials. Today, we apply customers all around the globe. Even the scientists of the polar station NEUMAYER III defy the Antarctic winter’s darkness with the help of our lamps.
