Ettlin is located in Ettlingen, a middle sized city in the German black forest. It was founded in 1836 as the first public company in the German cotton industry. The first products have been home textiles made out of cotton. In its long history the products of Ettlin have been continuously refined and new products have been generated. The first big change was at the beginning of the 20^th century with the production of fabrics for work and leisure ware. The pricing pressure caused by the globalization in the 1990^th brought the next massive change. Textiles for technical applications in particular textiles made out of polyester had been developed and successfully launched to the market. Right now Ettlin is the market leader regarding fabrics for coated abrasives. Other products within the portfolio are fabrics for sun protection and other coated applications. The technical textiles stand for 80% of the total turnover.

Currently the research and development department is working with new fabric structure for applications with special requirements. Some keywords here are photometrical fabrics and fabrics including sensors.
