Cool black applications in synthetic fibers
Blankenhain, May 2013 – GRAFE is presenting a new combination of colorants at the Techtextil 2013 in Frankfurt. This innovation will significantly reduce the heating up of PA and PET surfaces caused by the thermal absorption of carbon pigments. This temperature minimizing effect is also known under the name “cool black”. The know how required for the new development has been collected by GRAFE during many years of work in the field of photoselective formulations for LDPE and PET roofing. The solution is available as masterbatch and can dye PA and PET yarns with a dark color. The special coloration guarantees that thermal radiation (in the near infra-red or NIR area) can only be absorbed up to 700nm. The result is convincing: The reduced thermal absorption means that the product’s surface is perceived as much cooler and more pleasant to touch. Due to the chemical compatibility of the colorants used in PA and PET the experts at GRAFE have also found a way to create an alternative formulation for PP with the same effect. The new product development has been created for manufacturers of textiles and other semifinished products made of synthetic yarns who are interested in a simpler and more economical and cost-effective alternative to existing cool black products. Applications are in the field of smarttextiles, covers, floor mats and upholstery fabrics for seats in the automotive industry as well as in building interiors with increased exposure to sun. The GRAFE Group at the TECHTEXTIL in Frankfurt/Main: Hall 3.1, Stand F41 The range of products at GRAFE Advanced Polymers GmbH includes a wide selection of functional plastic compounds in addition to color and additive masterbatches. One of the largest research and development departments in the industry works on the newest technologies to equip plastics with intelligent functions. The GRAFE Group was founded in 1991 and today has three business divisions: Color Batch, Additive Batch und Polymer Technology. More than 200 staff develop and produce at the state of the art facility in Blankenhain (Thuringia) in the heart of Germany for the domestic and international market. The group is certified in accordance with DIN EN ISO TS 16949:2009 and DIN EN ISO 9001/2008.

ES-Delta II
The fiber is developed for high loft nonwovens. The fiber design has the following advantages over its predecessors and competing bicomponent fibers: • The fiber network after oven is rigid and strong and results in a larger void space per cm³. The space within the structure can provide air for insulation purposes, a reservoir for fluids, a large surface area, bulk for stabilization or filling as well as many other applications. • The fiber has a higher temperature resistance, thereby lowering the thermal shrinkage of the fabric. • The ES-Delta II combination of PE (sheath material) and PP (core material) makes it an ideal and environmental binder fiber avoiding the use of adhesives. It bonds to all synthetic and natural fibers. ES-Delta is manufactured and marketed in a range of dtex in order to enable various applications. A large denier (dtex) fiber will increase the compression resistance or stiffness, whereas a low denier fiber will create a tighter network. Applications ES-Delta II fibers can be used with advantage in hygiene acquisitiondistribution layers, filters, household products, medical products and other air-through (oven) bonded products.
