The Automotive Industry Export Council (AIEC) represents the interests of the seven motor vehicle manufacturers in South Africa, namely BMW, Ford, General Motors, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Toyota, Volkswagen, various commercial vehicle manufacturers as well as 500 component suppliers. Vehicles and automotive components were exported to 148 countries around the world with the export value to 25 of the export destinations more than doubling from 2013 to 2014. The South African automotive industry’s vision is to double vehicle manufacturing to 1,2 million vehicles per annum by 2020 with an associated broadening and deepening of the component supply base in the country as well. South Africa represents many opportunities of mutual benefit.
