To visit the Autostadt in Wolfsburg is to journey into the world of mobility. To date two million vehicles have been handed over at this, the world’s largest car delivery centre. In addition this extraordinary automobile theme- and experiential park has become a favourite excursion destination for young and old. Not only because here all things automobile are brought to life, but also because of its emphasis on cultural events and its reputation as an extra-curricular place of learning. Situated in 28 hectares of parkland, architecture, design and nature provide the framework for its many and diverse attractions. In summer the Autostadt becomes a paradise for mini-holidays, during the colder time of the year a beautiful winter wonderland. Year-round attractions include the “Zeithaus” Museum which is home to the classic cars that have left their mark on automobile history, eight pavilions which house VW’s various car brands, and the All-terrain track. Art and films stimulate discussion and interactive research stations invite participation. Movement in all its diverse forms – from themed communication to the Autostadt’s Movimentos Festival Weeks – is explored. And each visitor is privy to his/her own unique kaleidoscopic experience.
The Autostadt’s diversity reflects the Volkswagen Group’s values i.e. its corporate responsibility regarding humankind, culture and society. That is why there is as much inspiration for art-lovers, high-tech fans, multi-media enthusiasts and those who simply want to relax and enjoy the surroundings.
The Autostadt reflects and brings to life the Volkswagen Group’s values: how quality ensures safety, performance and sustainability go hand in hand and how customer service is paramount. It also shows the knowledge generated by its employees in other parts of the world and the different philosophies which underlie each individual brand. In its role as the Volkswagen Group’s communications platform, the Autostadt is the interface between customer and global manufacturer. There is no “quick fix” here. Instead the emphasis is on an open and intensive exploration of the many facets of mobility. The Autostadt espouses a corporate culture which emphasizes the highest level of service and exacting standards. Its big staff is united in its aim: to make each guest’s visit a memorable one.
The Autostadt is an accredited extra-curricular place of learning, and one of Lower Saxony’s important educational institutions. The Autostadt’s Education Department offers hands-on educational opportunities for young and old. It combines theoretic knowledge with practical experience and useful information with an enthusiasm for learning.
People across the board continue to learn outside of established educational institutions, some for the rest of their lives. The Autostadt is the absolute hub when it comes to one of the most important topics worldwide: human mobility in all its incarnations. Workshops and scintillating projects give visitors an opportunity of examining aspects of the natural sciences and gaining new knowledge in the fields of energy, environment and information technology. It was for this reason that the Autostadt instituted its own education department. More than 70 educationists have developed the Autostadt as an educational landscape for people of all ages. In this they have the approval of the state: Lower Saxony’s Ministry of Culture recognizes the Autostadt as an accredited extra-curricular place of learning and works in close cooperation with it. The Education Department’s offers are geared not only to activities focusing on the playful interaction with its smallest visitors, but also include workshops, tours and project days for older students and courses for adults.
