Bahir Dar Textile Share Company, Ethiopia, is government owned textile mill composed of spinning, weaving, processing and garments production. The Factory is located in Bahir Dar town, the capital city of Amhara regional state, 570 km North West away from Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia. Its’ climate is temperate with an average maximum and minimum temperature reaching 27 and 13.4 respectively and suited at an average altitude of 1830 meter above sea level. It has an estimated population of 283,514 and the international airport is 7 km away from the factory.
The factory was established in 1961 with an initial capital of Birr 9.6 million by the Italian government support as war compensation. Current paid up capital of the factory is reaching about Ethiopian Birr 500 million (USD24 million).
Recently, well organized and integrated expansion and renovation project has been executed with additional investment cost of $ 27 million and become operational. This will increase export sales to USD 8 million at the end of the 2016.
To be competitive and become a major player in international markets by providing quality 100% cotton textile products by 2020.
To satisfy customer needs by using local resources to produce quality textile products in sustainable way for organizational and/or end users, and provide safety and care to employees and community to contribute to achievement of nation’s growth targets.
Three main products are made of 100% cotton:
Plain dyed and bleached, rotary printed fabrics including sheeting, poplin, twill and canvas with a range of 80 – 400 gr/m2.
Quilt covers and pillow cases - plain dyed and printed.
Shopping bags, basic styles summer bottoms and tops.
30 000 meters of fabrics with width up to 240cm per day.
10 000 sets bed sheets plus pillowcases per day.

The factory has been exporting (directly and indirectly) since 10 years. In 2015 exports are to reach 30% of the total sales $ 23 million.
Currently companies from Norway, Italy are buying quilt covers, pillow cases, and greige fabrics for use in retail, garment and leather/textile bags industry.
Human Resource Training and Development
The company understands that its most important asset is people. Training is provided to operators for 30-45 days. For each key position in the company, there is a succession plan.
The company is providing subsided meals to workers.
Employees living with HIV Aids receives free milk on daily basis and can have a booth near the company premises to sell factory made products and get margins.
Factory made products are given free of charge to blind students joining universities throughout the country for the last five consecutive years.
The company is certified Oeko-Tex@ standard 100, ISO 19001:2008, ISO 14001:200.
Made in Green by OEKO-TEX® /STeP/ certification is planned next. It makes the company the first in Ethiopia with this certification.
Waste water treatment plant with a capacity of 1000 m3 per day is functioning. The company is located in a natural complex where people and other living creatures are living in harmony.

Ethiopia offers long-term development of the textile industry at a time when other nations fail to keep competitiveness and to maintain social compliance principles. Our capacity is 10,000 pairs of bed sheets per day while serving also the local market needs. New products with higher value added are under development.
Our minimum order quantity is 20' container or about 5,000 pairs of bed sheets.
