Big Green Egg is the pioneer in manufacturing modern kamados. This modern and extremely versatile outdoor cooking device is based on the more than 3000-year-old Japanese ‘kamado’ tradition. A ‘kamado’ is an Asian clay oven that was traditionally burned with wood and was capable of producing extremely good tasting experiences even back then.
From pioneer to international market contender
The American entrepreneur Ed Fisher was the first to recognise the potential of the characteristic Asian barrel oven when he was stationed in Japan in the 1950s, and he later perfected it using high-quality, ceramics advanced by NASA. This resulted in the modern kamado – the Big Green Egg. In December 1974, he established the company with the same name in Atlanta, Georgia (USA). In the meantime, the popular brand of this pioneer has reached cult status worldwide and Big Green Eggs can be found all around the world, in aficionados’ outdoor kitchens and restaurants alike.
The company passionately strives to provide food lovers with access to the versatility and exceptional taste of freshly prepared dishes on the Big Green Egg. Since April 2002, Big Green Egg Europe B.V. has been present on the European market as an independent company, having its place of business in De Lier. The company sells its premium products through around 800 stationary premium resellers.

The special feature of Big Green Egg is its unique ceramics technology, which was originally developed by NASA. It is exceptionally robust, weather-resistant and heat-insulating, and, on top of that, is guaranteed for life. The high-quality ceramics, and beautiful and functional design, including lid, ensure not only that coal is used sparingly but also that the inside of the Big Green Egg is capable of reaching temperatures of up to 350°C. Two adjustable air inlets enable precise air circulation, allowing the temperature to be accurately controlled to within 1°C.
By combining ancient knowledge, innovative materials and state-of-the-art technologies, the Big Green Egg has become a unique all-rounder that accentuates the aromas of natural food in an incomparable manner. Because of this, the Big Green Egg can be used for grilling, baking, smoking, cooking, boiling and slow cooking. The kamado is available in seven different models. From the Mini to the XXLarge, there is a Big Green Egg for every lifestyle and any occasion. There is another advantage: As a result of the high-quality, heat insulating ceramics, outside temperatures will not influence the temperature of the EGG.
