The Tamil Nadu Handloom Weavers’ Co-operative Society Ltd., popularly known as Co-optex has been instrumental in promoting the Handloom Weaving art in the state of Tamil Nadu. Established in the year 1935 and registered as the State Apex Weavers’ Co-operative Society. Co-optex today has over 1,00,000 Weavers,bringing the society's products to it's 200 showrooms throughout India.The cumulative looms of society, enables a retail annual turnover value of Rs.3060 million, which adds up in making Co-optex the number one co-operative society in the country. Today ,Co-operative boasts of a unique range handloom fabrics in hundreds of designs, colours, and textures.
Inspired by tradition & culture, the artistry and craftsmanship of our weavers yields a yriad of resplendent creations. Co-optex is the winner of National Award for ‘Outstanding contribution to handlooms 2013’ and National Award for ‘Largest producer of Handlooms in India 2013’.
Hand weaving skills nourished for generations by the Weavers whose artistic hands create intricate patterns and colours that have mesmerized people all over the world and cast a magic spell. Imbued with rich tradition and well-honed skills, Co-optex responded to the demands and challenges of the global market with ease and eagerness and hence established, Co-optex International.
Handloom weaving is a household profession and weavers with their traditional weaving skills, passed over to them the generations, crafts our products. A weaver, presses the treadles, picking the shuttle, beating the weft yarn at the fell of the cloth and synchronizing the same. As a recognition of honouring the skills of our weavers, Co-optex has introduced "Weaver Identity Card" attached to each product, displaying the picture of the weaver who has woven the fabric to each of its product, woven the fabric to each of its product, thus creating a bond between him/her and the customers.
Co-optex has always accorded due importance to its social and environmental responsibilities and has built a reputation for social values, engaging fair labour norms, prohibiting child and forced labour , using eco-friendly azo fre chemicals in our export products. Based on order specifications,’Co-optex International’ also undertakes production of organic cotton and vegetable dyed fabric.
Our objective is to give primacy to fair trade pratices over their buisness ambitions. Our international clients from countries such as Germany,France,Italy,Spain,Belgium and U.K. are members of the european fair trade associations’and have been associated with us for the past 40 years.
