Klever knives add colour and quality to a contemporary kitchen.
Ernst Klever GmbH was founded in Solingen/Germany in 1936 by Ernst Klever. At the time, the company specialized in manufacturing household and office items from bakelite. Main products were glue containers, tin openers, and milk and oil pourers.
The first injection moulding machine for thermoplastics was bought in 1953 from the Kraus company. Among the first articles produced by this machine were plastic knife handles, which were moulded onto steel strip blades of varying length. The resulting product range was successfully sold under the brand name “Silberband”.
In 1971, Udo Müller-Sohler took on the direction of the company, then in its second generation, and extended the range of products by several technical plastic components. The knife range was extended and complemented by a variety of different strip steel blades.
In 1984, the company moved to new and enlarged production premises in Dönhoffstraße. With 16 state-of-the-art ARBURG and RICO injection moulding machines, ten employees manufacture the entire product range on an area of 1.100 square metres.
Since 1984, the company is registered in the commercial register in its currently valid legal form, a limited liability company. Managing partners are Udo Müller-Sohler, and, since 1998, Stefan Müller-Sohler, managing the company in the third generation.
In 1997, the premises were extended by a 200 m² production hall, offering room for the company’s own pressroom as well as a grinding and sharpening department.
In 2005, a new range of knives was launched. Apart from the strip steel knives, the company now also offers household knives made from tapered steel, with a blade thickness of 1.2 to 1.5 mm.
In 2006, the premises were complemented by a 300 m² warehouse. With a height of 5.5 metres, it offers optimum storage opportunities for raw materials and packaging materials.
