On October 1, 1956 Hugo Gehring founded the Gehring Schneidwaren company. Initially, production focused on the honing of forged blades; very soon, however, the company gradually shifted its core business to the exclusive manufacture of flatware and knives, producing not only the proverbial Solinger quality but also continuing to develop the design and functionality of flatware and knives.
Today some 80 employees produce a wide array of cutting utensils, from vegetable knives and kitchen helpers to modern gifts and classical silverware.
When, in the 80s, a growing number of manufacturers decided to shift parts of production to the Far East, the Gehring company took a different road. In view of the expected quality downgrade, Gehring decided to make better use of the company's own qualifications.
What followed on account of this strategic decision is much appreciated across the globe. World-renowned cooks, such as Paul Bocuse, use knives manufactured by the Gehring Company, and numerous lifestyle businesses commission Gehring to develop and produce their collections.
