The workshop here in the Saxon Markneukirchen became established on November the 12thin 1880 by Hermann Richard Pfretzschner (*1857 - †1921). His from the famous violins and bow-maker Jean Baptiste Vuillaume attained knowledge was the basis for his later artistic work. Through his impeccable deliveries, he became “Royal Saxon Purveyor to the Court" as well as “Grand Ducal Saxon Purveyor to the Court".
In the workshop, counting over 132 years, Bow-maker-master Heinz Pfretzschner continues this craft-tradition in fourth and son René Heinz in fifth generation. Heinz Pfretzschner learned his occupation from 1955 to 1958 with his father Horst (*1914 - †1989) in the parental workshop in Markneukirchen and took the masters exam in 1970. René H. Pfretzschner learned from 1983 to 1985 with the father the bow-maker's occupation and took his masters exam in 2003. With the traditional knowledge passed on by their ancestors, they also prepare in traditional masterly handicraft their bows, which are marked with the fire-stamp “H. PFRETZSCHNER MARKNEUKIRCHEN" as well as with the Royally Saxon Coat of Arms in the frog. The addition “Markneukirchen" to the name is information as well as guarantee for the customer, that it is an original Pfretzschner-Bow from the master’s workshop in Markneukirchen. Furthermore, to avoid a mix-up with same named competitors.
Originally, the bows from our workshop were brand stamped over several generations with the name “H. R. Pfretzschner". The present labeling therefore turned out to be necessary, since a former family-member registered his own name, which is identical with the one of the company-founder Hermann Richard Pfretzschner, as a trademark and meanwhile sold it to another bow-maker. With the purchase he however could not acquire any further rights besides the right to use the name.
All copyrights for bow-models and their labeling are property of our workshop in Markneukirchen. Hereby we would like to expressly pointed out, there are no connection or mutuality whatsoever between this company and our workshop.
That impression appears since this company doesn't present itself correctly in public regards names, labeling and branding which very frequently leads to mix-ups and inquiries with us. This condition is still subject to clarification.
Beside the production of master-bows for all string instruments, we also offer reparation, evaluation and restoration of all current bow-products.
