PLDS as the former Philips Automotive Playback Modules (APM) is a leading developer, manufacturer and supplier of CD and DVD playback modules to suppliers of automotive entertainment systems. In 1953, the first car radio is born at Wetzlar. The car radio "ND 541 V" with new features like station buttons is the beginning of automotive applications for Philips : developed and produced at Wetzlar. In 1995, foundation of the new Philips division "Automotive Playback Modules" (APM). Development of automotive CD mechanisms starts. On March 5th, 2007, a new chapter in the history of APM begins - the merge with Lite-On into the joint venture company Philips & Lite-On Digital Solutions Corporation (PLDS).
