The name «steinlin» was already back in the 1960s to 1980s a synonym for exclusive handcrafting, made from diverse materials such as ceramics, glass, bronze and wood. The stylish and distinct design paved the way for the brand «steinlin» to become a renowned value for table-top and gift articles.
Michael Steinlin grew up in an entrepreneurial family in St Gallen and thus had already close insight into design and production in his early years. He started his career as a ceramicist, mastered in product management and finally left the family business in 1987 to learn the art of industrial engineering.
During his studies at the Art Center College of Design in La Tour de Peilz, Michael Steinlin had the opportunity to realize various design projects for companies such as Epson, Puma, Elektrolux, SMH, Dupont and Polaroid. Finally he was awarded the Sony Design Award in the European region, followed by a nomination for the global award, which he received as well.
After his studies Michael was a freelancer in the area of industrial design for companies in the sports, furniture and house appliances categories before he founded his business in St. Gallen in 1992. At first he mainly focused on supporting external companies but then as well started to design and market his own product line under the «steinlin» label. By tradition he leveraged upon different materials and production techniques and since 2012 the «steinlin» design team around Michael creates original and innovative products which helped the «steinlin swiss design» brand to evolve successfully in the Swiss market.
Since 2015 Susan Steinlin is the managing director of «steinlin swiss design». Susan, with her operations and logistics background, helped many well-known customers to develop their product portfolio and successfully build up the supply chain around this offering. Her comprehensive know-how is an invaluable asset for the «steinlin swiss design» team.
