The Merseburger Verlag
Merseburger is the oldest Protestant church music publisher worldwide and offers a wide range of sheet music and books in the field of church music: organ (with instruments), organ building, choral and ensemble literature, music for brass and trombone choirs, songbooks, masses, cantatas and oratorios, praise to God and a wide spectrum of secular choral and instrumental music.
The history of the Merseburger publishing house began in the Saxon Weissenfels. On Saturday, September 16, 1837, the first edition appeared in the bookstore publishing house of Carl Friedrich Meusel. With the evangelical choral book of the teacher Ernst Julius Hentschel published soon afterwards, the foundation stone of the church music emphasis was laid. Authors include Rudolf Mauersberger, Hans Chemin-Petit, and Fritz Werner, Orlando and Rudolph di Lasso, Melchior Franck, Johann Rudolf Ahle, and Dietrich Buxtehude, Vincent Lubeck, Georg Philipp Telemann, George Frideric Handel.
New beginning in Kassel 1972
The emphasis of the publishing house continues to be choir and organ music. The instrumental music catalog is being expanded. There are publications for wind instruments, strings, harp and piano. Renate Matthei has been managing director since 2005. The publishing house is one of the few publishers to offer a wide-ranging book program in addition to a large music program.
The works of the Merseburger publishing house are internationally widespread. So the company awards licenses u. a. to America, England, Argentina and Japan and a variety of works published by Merseburger are represented in the eG (evangelical hymnal), in the praise of God (Catholic hymnal), in textbooks and in popular songbooks of other publishers.
