MOD Devices' founder, Gianfranco Ceccolini had a dream: having a multi-effects pedal that would never run out of effects, did not need a computer to be brought on the stage and could withstand the scrutiny of audiophiles everywhere.
The journey began in 2008, when Gianfranco Ceccolini decided to design a digital pedalboard that would give musicians more freedom. He got together with Angoera Sistemas Eletrônicos and they both started working on the first prototype, based on a DSP.
Development was slow until 2010, when the project was financed by the PRIME Program and the first protoype was completed. After a series of tests involving musicians, and thanks to increasingly popular new technologies, the DSP was replaced by a PC and Linux-based structure at the end of that year.
In early 2012, with a new version of the prototype in operation, Hacklab, a software development company with extensive experience of web and free software development, joined the venture. The Plugin Store and the Pedalboard sharing platform were born. In 2013, the MOD Quadra came into existence.
In September of that year, the MOD Quadra was officially launched at ExpoMusic Brazil. Hundreds of onlookers, journalists and musicians came to the MOD Devices' stand and were very impressed by what they saw.
Although it did not become a commercial hit, the MOD Quadra had the important role of confirming the power of the concept and also helped identifying the important changes that were required for a sucessful product: smaller size and mass production.
In 2014, a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign for a smaller and sleeker product - the MOD Duo - was put in place and in October of the same year it was successfully funded.
In order to properly fulfill the campaign and offer a product with the desired level of quality, the team moved its headquarters to Berlin, Germany, in February 2015 and, after one year of full development, the first units of MOD Duo started being shipped to the Kickstarter backers.
Feedback has been amazing since then.
The MOD Duo has proven to be a worthy product to musicians and the community envisioned back in the day has started blossoming, specially after the creation of the Forum, in which developers and musicians were put in touch to discuss product features and new plugin ideas.
MOD Devices is dedicated to providing audiophile-grade digital audio processors that are based on open-source software, in order to create the most versatile digital pedalboard creator in the world.
Our product line includes the MOD Duo and its peripherals. They all rely on a state-of-the-art audio interface that allows user to combine a plethora of effects in ways that were never possible before.
