From small beginnings to a major group of companies
The Christian Seltmann Porcelain Factory (Seltmann Weiden) founded in 1910 has evolved, through the takeover of the ‘Royal Privileged Tettau Porcelain Factory’ (Königlich Tettau) and the four specialist porcelain manufacturers and art department absorbed in 1990 and 1995 to become a group of companies that is still today a family-run firm. 5 factories with around 800 employees manufacture exquisite porcelain for households, hotels and catering facilities. They also create stunning figurines and gifts.
The acquisition of Porzellanfabrik Königlich Tettau (the oldest porcelain factory in Bavaria) gave the Seltmann Group access to over 200 years of experience in porcelain making. Even the famous naturalist Alexander von Humboldt supported the founding of the factory, which took place in 1794 with the granting of a royal privilege by Friedrich Wilhelm II of Prussia.
The oldest working porcelain factory in Thuringia, at Rudolstadt-Volkstedt, boasts an even longer tradition, having been in operation for almost 250 years. In 2007 the Aelteste Volkstedter Porzellanmanufaktur factory was extended to provide a behind-the-scenes visitor experience, and four factories plus an art department were brought under one roof at Volkstedt.
Quarzsandwerke Weissenbrunn are suppliers of high-quality raw and finished materials for the ceramics industry and are also part of the Group.
