Precision Motors Deutsche Minebea GmbH (PMDM), based in Villingen-Schwenningen, is the largest motor development centre in the international network of the Japanese Minebea Co., Ltd., Tokyo.
As part of the Minebea group, which has about 67,000 employees and is one of the leading manufacturers of mechanical and electronic components, PMDM develops innovative BLDC motors, drive systems and Energy Harvesting Systems. In addition to the core business, the development of HDD motors (spindle motors), the company also develops precision motors used in the fields of the automotive and industrial industries.
The development process goes along with the production of modern manufacturing and measurement equipment for series production. After a successful production start, the products are manufactured in great numbers in the Asian manufacturing locations of the Minebea group.
The iTRV (intelligent thermostatic radiator valves, or, simply put, Smart Valve) functions without a battery or power supply. The new electronic heating valve uses the thermal difference between the radiator and the room in order to extract electrical energy by using a thermoelectric generator (TEG). Power simply from excess heat - Energy Harvesting! It is now for the first time possible to build a mechanical system in which the energy consumption is below that of the electronics.
