Gebr. Schulz pianos have become the strongest regional piano brand in the Rhinegau region of Germany for the past 125 years, since the Schulz family started their own piano business in 1888. The family have been involved in the piano industry since 1859, when Mr Helfferich and Mr Schulz were the co-owners of Grotrian, Helfferich, Schulz and TH Steinweg GmbH Pianos, in the nineteenth century, and Mr Schulz’s son Albert was the designer for Ibach pianos in the early 20th Century. They then set up their own Gebr. Schulz business, to make and sell pianos from their premises in Wiesbaden Germany, still the headquarters with workshops and showrooms of Gebr. Schulz.
Today, Gebr. Schulz is run by Christoph Schulz, a fifth generation piano maker and his family. He has now collaborated with Frederik Steffes, formerly the owner of Wilh. Steinberg piano factory and Colin Taylor, formerly with Bösendorfer and the founder of Joseph Brodmann pianos to further develop his piano into a worldwide brand now available in Europe, the USA and the Far East.
A combination of traditional construction methods coupled with the heritage of the best of German design, they are able to produce the best quality pianos at a most affordable price. Concentrating on improvements to the design of the pianos including the action and keyboard, they have achieved great results producing a sound quality that is rarely found in instruments in this price category ever.
At this point Steffes & Schulz has two managing partners. Our sales director is Colin Taylor from London. Denise Xie from Hangzhou is resposible for financial administration. The two piano makers we employ are from Deqing, and Research & Development is done by Christoph Schulz and his workshop in Wiesbaden.
After selling the Thüringer Pianoforte GmbH (Wilh. Steinberg Pianos) Frederik Steffes and Christoph Schulz decided to found a new company together.
The regional brand of Gebr. Schulz is to be developed into a worldwide know brand. The family tradition and the profound knowledge about German piano engineering will be used to achieve this status. We are planning to build our own instruments, also for the Chinese market, therefore a production in China is favourable.
Business areas of Steffes&Schulz GmbH are:
Production and distribution of Gebr. Schulz and A.Geyer pianos
Advancement of instruments from selected manufacturers and distribution oft he same within an own brand
Distribution of restorations done by Toyo Piano Mfg
During the last 2 years we invested intensively into product development – which yielded great results. Because of our longstanding relationships and friendships, a large number of colleagues and suppliers supported us with their infrastructure.
Brand-name upright pianos for a purchase price below 2.000€, grand pianos from 4.000€
Since 2014 we are continuously refining the instruments of our partners in China to fit our standards. At first we made the pianos reliable: for example by including new pedals, felts and new standards for materials at decisive parts. The outward appearance was also changed step by step, following our advice. The quality of the piano’s sound is surely satisfying.
The pianos not only carry our brand name, but also distinct and exclusive features. Characteristics that enhance the instruments tremendously.
In Kalisz, Poland we maintain a warehouse.
As a rule all pianos can be delivered, newly tuned and and well-elaborated, within 1 to 3 weeks. In the process we make sure there is enough time for the instruments to safely arrive at our dealers.
We wish to have 55 dealers within Europe. As a consequence, every dealer will have a substantial scope for development. An adequate margin is of great importance to our dealers. This comes from the fact that we are looking for dealers, which appreciate our efforts to maintain good piano craftsmanship.
To be successful in China, we want and have to maintain our European roots.
