TARANGO stands for ‘Training Assistance and Rural Advancement Non-government Organization’ established in 1989. Since its inception TARANGO is promoting the women’s status in rural Bangladesh to improve their socio-economic condition and lead them to a rightful role in the development of the country through its various programs like-Handicrafts, Women Entrepreneurship Development, Village Savings & Loan Association, Savings & Micro Finance and initiate different development projects on Women Economic Empowerment.

TARANGO is a voluntary non-government organization which dreams of, and desires to, contribute to the establishment of a just and poverty-free society by organizing and training the most disadvantaged women through its committed, dedicated and skilled workers. It further aims to make the women resourceful, skilled and production oriented by assisting them to develop their human potential and talents to promote leadership and entrepreneurship in order to take up the responsibilities of sustainable economic activities to establish a self-reliant and gender-balanced society

The Handicraft program is a Fair Trade initiative of TARANGO started in 1989. The function of our handicrafts program is to improve the socio economic condition of marginalized and rural women in order to make their products more marketable both in the local and international market. These women are supported in a four-layer approach: 1) Skill development training, 2) Supplies of raw materials, 3) Marketing Support and 4) Guidance into self-directed actions. TARANGO’s service coverage extends to more than 18,000 women in the districts of Barisal, Dinajpur, Gopalgonj, Faridpur, Tangail, Bandarban, Lalmonirhat and Dhaka. TARANGO is working closely with several Fair Trade networking bodies ECOTA-fair trade network of Bangladesh, WFTO-Asia and WFTO.
TARANGO works closely with several Fair Trade and other business organizations in Europe, Asia and Australia and exporting different types of Bags, Baskets, Table Tops and many gift crafts produced from natural fibres: jute, cotton, sea grass and recycled material products to Australia, Japan, China, Germany, Spain, Netherlands, United Kingdom, USA, Finland, Italy, Singapore, Greenland and Canada.
