Astro Spatial Audio is part of Vanmunster BV, a specialist consultancy and sales organisation dedicated to high-end professional audio and entertainment technology. Founded in 2012 and based in the Netherlands, the company is led by Bjorn Van Munster, a respected global leader in the fields of audio design and acoustics. 


Having recognised the growing need for an easy-to-use, object-based immersive audio solution, Van Munster created Astro Spatial Audio and the SARA II Premium Rendering Engine, rapidly achieving international renown for the pioneering technology. Delivering new creative options on tour with major artists and in theatres worldwide, Astro Spatial Audio solutions can be found in venues as varied as houses of worship, planetariums, theme parks, museums, nightclubs, cruise ships and more.

Astro Spatial Audio is the company behind the ground-breaking SARA II Premium Rendering Engine – the world’s most advanced implementation of object-based immersive audio plus powerful tools for the optimisation of room acoustics. Entirely brand agnostic, SARA II offers sound designers and engineers an entirely new 3D audio toolkit that can quickly and easily scaled from one venue to the next.

Developed and manufactured in Europe, the Linux-based SARA II occupies just 3U of a standard rack, offering up to 128 MADI or 128 Dante configurable network pathways at 48kHz/24bit resolution. All paths are assignable to at least 32 audio input channels that can be rendered to up to 128 independently processed sound source outputs. Even with full CPU processing, latency is guaranteed to be below 5ms. Control couldn’t be simpler with browser-based access to an intuitive GUI, and simultaneous control from multiple devices, ranging from mixing consoles and DAWs to tablets and phones running either Android or iOS. In addition, the front panel of each SARA II boasts a 2.8” TFT LCD colour touchscreen with a number of different control options. To ensure reliability, each SARA II engine hosts several on-board redundancy options, while systems can be linked as required to form massive immersive experiences across vast spaces. Use of the Open Sound Control (OSC) protocol delivers interoperability with third party systems.

Most importantly, SARA II frees the engineer to unlock the creative potential of their audio. With Astro Spatial Audio, you are free to use any loudspeaker brand or any console you wish.
