West Yorkshire Materials Testing Service (WYMTS) is a public Test House which is part of the Scientific Services Division of West Yorkshire Joint Services. 

WYMTS was founded in July 1990 and has established itself as a worldwide testing organisation for testing of textiles, clothing, upholstered furniture and protective clothing.

The laboratories are accredited by UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service) with over 100 tests on the schedule of accreditation.

WYMTS also has Notified Body approval for CE Certification uner Regulation 14 of the Personal Protective Equipment Regulations 2002 (SI 2002/2144).

WYMTS carries out EC type examination and certification for PPE to comply with the requirements of the PPE Directive 89/686/EEC under Articles 10 and 11A.

The main areas of PPE which we test and certify are:-

Clothing for protection against heat and flame

Clothing for protection against mechanical risks

Hand and arm protection

Protective gloves

Technologist employed by WYMTS are actively involved in standards committees relating to the protective clothing and upholstered furniture
