AHS products are well-known by workshops for more than fifty years. In 1956, Harald Schneider, founder and owner of AHS, developed the first roller brake tester.
He was wondering if there was a possibility to get a practical solution for the testing of vehicle brakes and started development. At that time, he owned a little workshop and a towing company.

The most important thing was the practical side in order to allow easy handling in a workshop. Very soon, he came up with a solution that had never been there before. This one was usually developed for the own workshop, but demand was rising very fast and the workshop became less important. In the early 1960’s, Alfred and Harald Schneider closed down the workshop – the production and distribution of brake testing equipment had become a big success.

AHS was founded and was presenting their products to the public at the first Automechanika in Frankfurt. Very fast, AHS came up with interesting and exceptional solutions, i. e. the first mobile brake tester

The next step was the development of the first dynamometer with a Telma brake. Continuous improvement led to a brake-through: the first dynamometer with a retarder, which was sold to a technical school and was presented at the International Fair in Munich in 1964. From the beginning, AHS has produced all machines completely by themselves. This did not even change when out-sourcing became popular and most competitors established production in foreign countries.

What seems to be a bit strange in the modern world, is a big competitive advantage for a AHS until today. Unlike many competitors, AHS is able to accomplish almost every special request and measurements. AHS is producing machines for all kind of vehicles.

In 1981, IBM introduced the first personal computer and the worldwide pc boom started. Only one year later, AHS was the first company to present the first computer-based brake tester at the Automechanika in Frankfurt. Harald Schneider jun. joined the company. During the next years, AHS established numerous partnerships in Western Europe, Asia and Australia.

After 1989, AHS was one of the first companies to invest in the “new” part of Germany by taking over the former DDR brake tester manufacturer PAB. It took longer than everybody thought to find a good place in Eastern Germany to build up new production facilities. Political things were not easy as assumed in the beginning, and the former employees of PAB had to move several times and had to work under difficult conditions before Harald Schneider decided to build the new facility in the south of Berlin.

Finally, in 1995, the new production facility was ready to start and besides new production facilities and a modern office building a show room was taken in operation.

During the 1990’s, AHS expanded their dealer network and was now covering almost whole Europe and East Asia.

In 2001, Dr. Janna Schneider, the daughter of company’s owner Harald Schneider joined the company. In the same year, the quality management system of AHS was certified according ISO 9001. In 2004, AHS built the TUV Station Delmenhorst, totally equipped with latest AHS machines. This is not only an excellent showroom for customers, but also a good possibility to test the equipment under inspection conditions.

Today, AHS is a modern, technical and customer oriented company, specialized in testing equipment and giving its best to sell high quality products and state-of-the-art solutions. Unlike others, AHS has specialized on this field and possesses an enormous experience. No matter what kind of vehicle – cars, buses, trucks, quads, racing cars, military vehicles, go karts – AHS will find a possibility to test it.

AHS is producing all parts in Germany in order to be as flexible as they can and to assure a high quality. In addition, AHS is still a family owned company.
