A BRIEF PROFILE OF OUR ORGANIZATION
The All India Handloom Fabrics Marketing Co-operative Society Limited, is a National Co-operative organization of Handloom Weavers of India functioning for the welfare of the weavers . This organization was originally set up and sponsored by the Government of India in the year 1956, under the then Bombay Co-operative Act, 1925. Presently this organization is governed under the Multi State Co-operative Societies Act, 2002.
The main objective of this co-operative organization , since its inception have been to provide Inter-State and external marketing of handloom goods produced by the weavers in every part of India avoiding middle men to derive maximum benefit to the weavers as well as to provide sustained employment to the weavers who are affiliated to this organization through their cooperative organizations at Primary level, District / Region level and State level as well as those Who do not have any organized forum as well. Today this Society has got membership from 22 State / Union Territories in India. This Society has now completed 50 years of distinguished services to the handloom weavers and artisans of India.
None else than the weavers are the owners of this organization working in the cooperative fold for their mutual benefits. The entire equity of our Society is subscribed by the weavers themselves. It is working for the welfare of the weavers strictly observing the cooperative principles.
It is not out of place to mention here that on an average about two lakhs handloom weavers’ families are associated with this organization for their livelihood . The main role of this organization is to provide a link between the weavers and the customers and the customer helps the weavers by buying their products which in fact helps the weaver to produce more cloth and thereby sustain in his traditional employment providing livelihood for him and his family.
The Society, since beginning, has been engaged in both retail marketing through a chain of prestigious show-rooms popularly known as “ HANDLOOM HOUSE” at all important cities of India as well as retail showrooms in Singapore and Mauritius as well as export business. In the export field , our Society has got customers at most of all the countries . Our Export Divisions functioning at NOIDA / DELHI, CHENNAI, KARUR AND SALEM are taking care of the export business.
Our products are mainly of natural fibre products made of cotton , silk, wool, jute and linen – all made on handlooms – suiting to the demand and requirements of all the seasons and for every age groups. Our Society has also got its own subsidiary unit exclusively undertaking production of quality garments of International standards.
Our Society has set up 11 (Eleven) Zonal Procurement – cum – Production Centres for quality control on production at almost all important handloom clusters of the country viz. at Varanasi, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Karur, Bangalore, Mumbai, Gorakhpur, Lucknow, Bhadohi and Sitapur which are the main clusters of handloom production. The main activities of these centers are to establish direct contact with the weavers for arranging production strictly ensuring the usage of yarn, correct design and other necessary inputs as well as to guide the weavers time to time to undertake production as per the demand and taste of clients from the various markets and to give the weavers payment at their door steps.
This national cooperative society has got the distinction of being the top exporter of handloom goods among all the handloom co-operative institutions in India. It is a recipient of National award for its outstanding export performance.
This organization is run and managed by a team of Weavers themselves as its elected Directors.
