Our company, founded in 1975, has specialized from the very beginning in the production and restoration of historical musical instruments. After many years of rich experiences and considerable investments in structure, R&D and market surveys, BIZZI has developped a new idea that in the last few years has placed the company in a significant position among the most qualified manufacturers of historical keyboard instruments.
Some prestigious initiatives, carried out in the years 70s and 80s, like the restoration of the Collections of the Museo del Teatro alla Scala in Milan and the Museo Correr in Venice, as well as the foundation of the Scuola di Liuteria of Milan, have allowed Bizzi to acquire the indispensable know-how and background for the launch a new project which would have required about ten years before being completed.
The goal was the establishment of a new company based on the same manufacturing principles of the greatest harpsichord makers of the past, and particularly the Ruckers dinasty, which is a unique example of high quality combined with great efficiency and incredible productivity.
This project was started in the early 90s with the idea of reproducing the historical manufacturing system of the Ruckers family, based on a perfect organization of all the craftwork activities required by the harpsichord construction.
While the respect of the fundamental design and making cryteria of the old Masters was essential, at the same time we decided not to give up all the advantages of a modern company, especially in regards to the possibilities given by the research in the fields of the sound, structure controls and metallurgic investigation.
What came out after many years of hard work can probably be summarized in our production numbers, which have grown from 12 to 75 harpsichords per year, entirely built by our artisans in Italy and sold in 44 different Countries.
The rapid growth of our enterprise has led us to go ahead and expand our activity with the goal of including new musical initiatives which we have had in mind for years.
As a result of a long research we are proud to announce that in September 2007 we have purchased the Villa Bossi of Bodio, near Varese, very close to where we work now.
The Villa is a very important historical building (XVI-XVIII cent) which seems ideal to fulfil our projects, and will become an international centre for baroque music and also a museum of the harpsichord story and construction.
