Every time a driver puts his foot on the brake pedal, the brake pad presses on the rotating brake disks. During this process friction material rubs off the brake pads and is deposited on wheel rims in the form of brake dust. With the ATE Ceramic brake pads, Continental has brought an innovative solution to the market which will provide quiet and low-cost braking, thus keeping the wear and tear on materials to a minimum. The brake pads are made out of a mixture containing innovative friction materials, which reduce unpopular brake dust significantly. The low-dust operation of the new ATE Ceramic brake pads protects the shine on expensive aluminum rims and makes an important contribution to maintaining their value.

The innovative mixture used for ATE ceramic brake pads also reduces brake noise significantly. Humming noises, irritating squeaking and squealing are effectively suppressed. With the portfolio expansion in the compact car segment ATE Ceramic covers more than 45% for the front and over 65% for the rear axle. Further extensions are already being planned. In 2013 there will be in addition to more uses at the compact car segment a special extension for SUV‘s (Sports Utility Vehicle) and high-powered sports cars
