Van Veldhoven is a textile designer specialised in coatings, print techniques and other surface treatments. His designs offer a combination of materials, prints/structures and print techniques. His fascination is the surface of materials, with its tactile and optical effects. Some of the techniques the studio uses are: coating, relief printing, embossing, needle punch, laser cut, ultrasonic welding, pleating, transfer and sublimation printing. More about the work. Visiting a textile factora, whether it is a vera clean and organised mill in Switzerland, or a not-so-clean and 'very different' organised one in Asia, always makes me happy. I get very excited and inspired seeing high-tech machinery, as well as traditional craftsmen. at work. When working with a company I always want to understand how everything is done, and I learn new things with every visit. Eugène van Veldhoven (1964) studied Fashion design at the Rotterdam Acedemy of Arts and Archtecture, the 'Willen de Kooning Academy'. Before working in textile industry, he produced articles and materials for textile magazines and trend agencies. For several years now, hehas been teaching at the Textile department of the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague.
