HISTORY Europlasma is founded in 1989 and is specialised and qualified in the design and manufacturing of low pressure plasma systems.
Europlasma is situated in Oudenaarde near Ghent / Belgium. The company employs an enthusiastic team engaged in the marketing, development and production of gas plasma systems.
The experience of Europlasma in the field of plasma dates back to the 80's, especially in the semi-conductor industry. Since the '90 Europlasma focuses on the activation and dry cleaning of plastics, ceramics and metals to promote adhesion before gluing, painting, printing or to modify surfaces into for example hydrophilic, hydrophobic, low friction or barrier coated surfaces. More recent activities are the plasma treatments of textiles and large parts (automobile dash boards and bumpers).
Some typical application fields are:
I TEXTILES AND NON-WOVENS • Roll-to-roll treatment of fibres, foils, textiles (woven and non woven). • Plasma polymerisation of barrier coatings, hydrophobic coating. • Super fine surface cleaning. • Battery separation. • Surface activation. • Hydrophilisation of textiles, filters, membranes. • Hydrophobisation of foil, non woven and webs. • Barrier performance coatings on film and textile,…
II OTHER NON-TEXTILE APPLICATIONS
• Printed circuit board cleaning. • Cleaning of electronic components, for example hybrids, connectors, assembled PCB’s. • General Plastics and metals for activation and cleaning to improve adhesion of paint, glue, print or metallisation. • Fine cleaning of high tech aeronautics and military parts. • Activation and surface modification of medical and bio-medical parts. • Plasma polymerisation to obtain barrier, hydrophobic, biocompatible or hydrophilic coatings.
Europlasma established his position in the medical, automotive, electronic, aeronautic, laboratory, textile and polymer industry.
Europlasma is member of Belairbus since 1998.
LOW PRESSURE PLASMA TECHNIQUE
Principle of Operation The Europlasma system is emploied to clean and modify materials to alter their surface characteristics. Components to be treated are placed within the vacuum chamber and the chamber is brought under vacuum. The desired process gasses are introduced into the chamber. When equilibrium pressure is achieved the Radio Frequency generator applies power to the electrodes and creates a plasma. Due to the energised gas species present, the components will be cleaned and/or activated. After appropriate process time the plasma is extinguished, residual process gases pumped out and the chamber brought to atmosphere. Components are then unloaded and provided to the next manufacturing step.
Europlasma's systems are designed to provide production worthy capabilities, as well as the versatility that is needed in a research and development laboratory. Like other members of the product family, the system offers high performance and productivity combined with the process control, necessary for uniform and repeatable treatment.
Automation The process runs are automatically controlled by an advanced process controller, called PLC. After setting all the desired parameters in a permanently stored recipe file, the process becomes a "one button" operation suitable for non-technical manufacturing environments. All the parameters are stored and can be monitored at any time. A hard copy of the run parameters as well as the actual process conditions can be obtained.
The PLC allows • To run processes automatically. • To define many processes as recipes. • To check chamber pressure, pump time, gas flow, working pressure, process time, temperature, forward power of RF-generator. • All parameters are correctly monitored within 5 % of the machine settings. • Usage of operator password. • Process/maintenance password.
The data logging allows • To log the process parameters of each process run. Those parameters are automatically saved in a Microsoft Excel data file on a PC.
