The company was founded by Franz Amstetter in 1908 in a region famous for its textile industry and weaving mills.
In 1950 Wilehard Amstetter took over from his father as the sole owner of the company. Over the following years the company was on the up-and-up. The dynamic young entrepreneur first arranged for the conversion to an automatic weaving mill which, looking back, providing the basis for the economic further development of the company. This was followed by a step by step changeover from the multicolour weaving mill to pure terry cloth
operation with its own making up department. The specialisation associated with this pruning of products proved to be an important decision in conjunction with on-going rationalisation measures.
As his father did in 1932, Wilehard Amstetter moved the company to accommodate these changes. In 1968 he decided to purchase a large area, about 2 kilometres outside Heidenreichstein.
In a second expansion stage in 1974, these new production workshops were supplemented by a modern dyehouse. In acknowledgement of these achievements, the State Coat of Arms of the Federation was presented by the Minister of Commerce, Dr. Staribacher, on 19th July 1974.
The upward expansion continued apace in the following years. The scope of the business was almost doubled, the number of employees continued to increased and the Works II was completed.
In 1985 the company hitherto known as "Buntweberei Franz Amstetter & Sohn" was converted into "Amstetter Gesellschaft mbH". In order to continue the tradition of Franz Amstetter & Sohn, the current trade name "framsohn" (= fr anz am stetter & sohn) was emphasised.
In 1992 Dipl. Ing. Josef Schulner, the son-in-law of Wilehard Amstetter, took over the management of the business. Unfortunately he died that same year, having been a leading light in the expansion in the seventies and eighties. Ing. Eva Maria Schulner took over the management of Amstetter GmbH and has been successfully in charge up to the present day.
