Metaphys products are designed by Chiaki Murata, designer and founder of the Metaphys brand. Metaphys was established in 2005 as an experimental product development business with corporate companies. The main office and showroom are located in Osaka, Japan. The second showroom is located in Tokyo at the Tokyo Design Center. Products are sold in select design stores, thru catalogs and magazines and the web store. The break thru was made with Hono during the Milano Salone in 2005. Since then Metaphys products have received national and international design awards and are published in various medias. The success of the products is due to the “Design of Behavior”, which is a design solution guided by a careful observation of users. It is “a discipline that explores the basic principle of all existence”. Do we really need the things that we think we need every day?
Have we not made the wrong use of things something we now take for granted? We are asked to take the approach of discerning the significance of the existence of things in a consumer culture of excessive production. Metaphys is a brand created by the collaboration of enterprises and individuals that share this idea. It is a design business that guides the “nature of things”, the “making of things” and the “flow of things” to their roots.
