The Kotori modern lamp is a new product from Hiyoshiya, a 5-generation old, Kyoto-based Japanese umbrella shop. We want everyone to appreciate the beauty of the gentle light that passes through a Japanese paper umbrella with the geometrical design of its bamboo frame. The Kotori lighting range is the result of these aspirations.
Kotori is simple. It makes use of this traditional beauty with shades that fold up like a Japanese umbrella. The shades can be replaced easily, so when a room is remodeled, it offers the pleasure of exchanging the old for the new. Regarding any aspect of the lighting equipment, we are happy to liaise with producers throughout the world.
The company, founded over 150 years ago in the late Edo period has been selling umbrellas ever since. Hiyoshiya's Japanese umbrellas are called Kyo-wakasa, after Kyoto, and the extra large formal ones, used for outdoor ceremonies, represent the epitome of Japanese umbrella-craft. Within Japan, Hiyoshiya alone continues making these items of great beauty. We also deal more generally with every kind of Japanese umbrella, so please consult us on any related matters.
