ITKIB
ISTANBUL TEXTILE AND APPAREL EXPORTER ASSOCIATIONS
WHAT IS ITKIB?
ITKIB stands for Istanbul Textile and Apparel Exporter Associations. It comprises four of the associations, namely;
Istanbul Ready-made Garment Exporters Association,
Istanbul Textile and Raw Material Exporters Association,
Istanbul Leather Exporters Association and
Istanbul Carpet Exporters Association.
Secretarial duties of these associations are handled by the, General Secretariat of ITKIB.
A COORDINATOR ASSOCIATION
There are sister associations in İzmir, Mersin, Bursa, Denizli, Gaziantep and Antalya operating in the same fields. ITKIB is the coordinator of all them.
Regarding the number of members and the volume of business, the four associations under ITKIB umbrella are the most prominent ones.
ITKIB has a total number of 18 thousand registered members,which realised export of 14,6 bilion USD in 2005.
In 2005, 20 % of the Turkish total export was realized by the members of ITKIB. Likewise, 78 % of apparel exports, 57% of textile exports, 83% of leather exports and 31% of carpet exports were realized by our member companies.
MAIN ACTIVITIES
Main functions of ITKIB can be described as assisting its members and promoting of bilateral and multilateral trade relations. In order to reach these general aims, the activities carried out by ITKIB can be categorized under the following headings:

TRADE PROMOTION AND DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES
All kind of trade related information is gathered and disseminated,
Import and cooperation requests of foreign companies are conveyed to the members,
Members are guided and supported in participating international fairs,
25 international fairs are organized annually,
In order to facilitate interaction between Turkish and foreign businessmen, trade delegations are arranged abroad and delegations coming to Turkey are hosted,
The Young Designers Contest is held every year.
Market research reports, country and product profiles are prepared,
Publicly accessable databases are created,
An EU funded “Fashion and Textile Clustering Project” is carried out.
STATISTICAL REGISTRATION
In line with the decree that regulates structure and functions of the associations,
Export is registered and statistics are kept,
The statistics and reports are used in decision-making processes.
ECONOMIC RESEARCH AND REPORTING
For the usage in decision-making process, various periodic and sporadic reports are prepared and shared with related bodies.

News and Views Bulletin,
Sectoral cost analysis,
Statistical reports,
Market research reports,
Reports for the international interactions,
Reports on determination the policies at the international level.
PR ACTIVITIES
In order to develop common interests, ITKIB communicates with other national and international organizations, associations and institutions functioning in related fields,
supports governmental bodies in their international interactions,
provides them with required reports and information,
facilitates true information flow.
TRAINING ACTIVITIES
Among training activities the followings are noteworthy;
Organizing seminars and courses on production and marketing,
Contributing educational bodies and schools for skilled men power,
Contributing to the curriculums in the schools,
Publishing various books, directories and a periodical for updated and smooth information flow.
CONSULTING ACTIVITIES
Providing the members with consulting services on target markets,
Giving practical advises on logistics, banking, customs regulations, payment terms, incoterms, insurance, EU, free trade agreements, free zones etc.,
Proving its members with the trade regulations of Turkey and changes thereof,
Providing information about trade practices of partner countries and changes thereof,
Giving practical advises on market access.
COORDINATION ACTIVITIES
ITKIB act as a bridge between private sector and the governmental bodies. It assists designing of the sectoral policies by the government,
Acts as coordinator among all the textile and clothing associations, institutions and establishments in Turkey.
Coordination with other sectoral domestic and international bodies.
PUBLICATION ACTIVITIES
Hedef: A monthly magazine distributed to the member companies. Written in Turkish with English abstracts,
Educational materials: Books, booklets, leaflets etc.,
Brochures,
Reports: various sectoral analysis, evaluations and statistical reports,
E-Puclications: Most of our works are publicized on the web.
