It all began like a fairy story . . . THE FASCINATION of the beauty of little things wouldn’t let Anni Schaad go. She passionately collected everything which enchanted her: fragile shells, colourful feathers, glass beads, sequins, bizarre little pieces of wood, beautifully marked stones and much more . . .
. . . And this passion became her vocation. From her maiden name Anni Lang she made langani, and a small black pearl became the sign for the uniqueness and authenticity of every single piece of jewellery . . . Something really new was created: costume jewellery which reflects the spirit of the age of fashion and art. In the 60s glass beads thread on nylon strings hopped happily on the skin — an innovation to traditional jewellery. And from the 70s there were no barriers any more. — Out of the items collected by Anni Schaad at the beginning — shells, stones, feathers and many more new ”objets trouvé“ there now developed the most unusual pieces of jewellery. The first of them have long since become much sought-after collector’s items, and langani has in the meantime found collectors all over the world. But the story goes on . . . . . . THE FASCINATION of collecting unusual materials has long since been inherited by Anni Schaad’s daughter, Susanne Kiess-Schaad.
With curiosity, the wish to discover something new and a team of young designers she is now too — world-wide — tirelessly on the look-out for something special . . .
. . . A Sesame from a Thousand and One Nights seems to open up with this wealth of precious stones like onyx, sodalite, turquoise, lapis lazuli and agates, bauxite, antique hand-turned glass beads, paste gems, pearls made of artistically carved bone — or the unending variations of shells, mother-of-pearl and corals. In addition there are exotic fruit pods, delicate feathers, sea urchin spines, ostrich eggs, horn, leather and alpaca. But also unusually shaped high-grade wood, palms and coconut, and in addition to that even acrylic and synthetic material to create especially imaginative forms. This splendid collection is rounded off with silver, brass and tombac in order to create the many unique pieces of jewellery . . .
Delightful collections are created in the langani studio. They are made by hand in small numbers, and every piece is characterised by handicraft perfection. The colours and materials are chosen with sensitivity and matched together, some perhaps dyed, painted, structured or re-shaped in order to accentuate their unusual character. And so fashion trends are transformed into the classically beautiful jewellery: each piece is a small work of art . . . ”We want to emphasise the individual style of every woman and give her the feeling of having a distinctive charisma of personality and beauty . . . with a piece of jewellery by langany.“
