Many illuminating functions can be solved using standard optics. For all the other solutions Professor Dr. Harald Ries founded OEC and developed the technology of 2D and 3D tailoring. A complex system of differential equations assists engineers at OEC in calculating optical free-form surfaces that deliver a precise solution for any illumination project. Naturally, this is based on the assumption that the solution is achievable within the framework of the physical parameters. Even powerful computers are unable to come up with solutions for functions involving a large number of parameters, but these problems can be solved by tailoring methodology – within a practical timeframe.
