For many years, Olympia Business Systems Vertriebs GmbH in Hattingen/Ruhrkreis has been an important distribution partner for Olympia office machines and systems in Germany. The sole managing partner, Heinz Prygoda, began his business activities in 1977 with a regionally-oriented company which soon developed into a wholesale trade company of office products acting all over Germany.
One of the company's main focuses was on the wide range of Olympia office machines. The fundamental sales partnership for the products, which require intensive and qualified consultation, is aimed at specialised office machine and cash register dealers. However, Heinz Prygoda also realised at an early stage that department stores, mail order companies, cash and carry shops and an ever increasing number of chain stores are important sales channels, especially for office products aimed at private consumers. The boom in the information and communication industry, and the associated spread of information technology has proved this differentiated approach to sales channels to be both far-sighted and assured of a good future. As part of the restructuring of the Daimler Benz/AEG/Olympia group, the Olympia division, along with its information technology sector, was sold to a new owner from East Asia, and Olympia International Holdings Ltd. was formed in order to control international production and sales activities.
In 1997 the German sales rights and market licenses for the established brand name Olympia were transferred to the long-standing and successful partner Prygoda. Prygoda founded Olympia Business Systems Vertriebs GmbH (OBS) for these activities, and continued to develop Olympia's office equipment business. In mid-2003 the contractual partners Olympia International Holdings (OIH) and OBS decided to expand their successful co-operation by also transferring sales in Europe, the former CIS, the Middle East and North Africa to OBS. As well as transferring stock, a long-term Trademark Licence Agreement was signed. This ensured the continued development of the Olympia brand, including by products which are not manufactured by OIH.
This licence agreement does not include telecommunications products, which will continue to be sold world-wide by OIH using the Olympia brand. OBS was able to recruit experienced staff for this new, international field of business, some of whom came from the existing Olympia organisation, which means that our trusting relationship with our customers can be continued. OBS currently employs around 40 staff in sales, marketing, logistics, service and after-sales service. The staff are committed to the company's philosophy of quality, speed and flexibility. With the established Olympia brand, the constant focus is on continuing to strengthen and expand our product ranges.
