The TOMATEX Company was founded in 1993. The company’s textile manufacturing tradition, however, is much longer. The Tomatex Company is the result of and was created through the privatization of a textile plant which until 1991 was a part of the state enterprise Svit. Svit was among the largest manufacturers of footwear and shoe-making materials. This was also reflected in the initial production program of Tomatex which until its privatization focused exclusively on the manufacture of shoe-making textiles and fabrics.

Based on intensive growth and modernization, there was an expansion of its production portfolio into other industrial branches. This took place gradually from 1993, but mostly into the automotive industry.

The company’s transformation ended in 1999 by a change in its legal format from Limited Liability Company to a joint stock company (JSC). This is when today’s company legal format was established – TOMATEX Otrokovice, a.s. (JSC)
